How to Help Houston Post Hurricane Harvey

September 4, 2017
Published by

Disasters and tragedies tend to bring out the best of humanity. From before Hurricane Harvey even made landfall to now, we have heard countless accounts of families, friends, neighbors, and strangers helping each other out.

In the immediate wake of the storm, people from around the state, country and world have even stepped up to help while others have asked what they can do. They’ve donated time, money, clothing, shelter, non-perishable food items and so much more. And though this help and support is greatly appreciated, it is important to stay engaged to help Houston post Harvey since there may be long-term devastation and cleanup will take months if not years.

You can offer long-term support by:

  1. Adopting a family that you can help support for several months to come. You can send supplies, bring them meals, give them non-perishable food items and clothes.
  2. Calling a family member, colleague, or friend who has been affected can give them much needed love and support during their time of need. Be a listening and friendly ear while they recover.
  3. Continue to give non-perishable food items, toiletries, clothing, toys, and other supplies that will be needed long-term.
  4. Donate blood, especially if you have an O positive or O negative blood type.
  5. Helping with the cleanup not only by rolling up your sleeves but also providing or donating to organizations cleaning supplies, construction tools, construction supplies, etc.
  6. Making a financial donation or connect with a group you trust that is vested in the cleanup and recovery such as:
    1. Cajun Navy:
    2. Catholic Charities of USA:
    3. Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group:
    4. org
    5. Feeding Texas:
    6. Greater Houston Community Foundation:
    7. Houston Food Bank:
    8. Houston Humane Society:
    9. Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund (set up by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner):
    10. Texas Diaper Bank:
    11. The SPCA of Texas:
    12. United Way of Greater Houston:
    13. Volunteer Houston:

Sandcastle Houston continues to offer our thoughts and support to those affected by this storm. As a community we are grateful for all those who have helped in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and those who will help Houston post Harvey. As we start to rebuild what has been lost remember, we are resilient, we are Texas Proud!

  • "I just moved into my new Sandcastle home and I think it’s a wonderful place to live. They have been very helpful, particularly Lynette and Steven. From the owner Mike Salomon down, it has been a truly positive experience. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to buy a new home that is built of high quality to consider this home builder." Neal Massey
  • "I purchased my house on 1/31/17. I have the Coronado plan. The process of adding upgrades was very easy. The closing went very smoothly. Mike was great to work with! Since the closing, I’ve had a few minor issues come up. I can’t say enough about Steven! He has always been extremely helpful and has fixed all of these minor issues or set me up with the person who can fix them. He is great!
I love my home! I feel like I got a good value for the location. I look forward to enjoying my house in the years to come!" Kris Kieta
  • "We just moved into our new home by Sandcastle. Since the beginning of the process the whole Sandcastle team paid great attention to our requests and responded rapidly. We were lucky to get in contract in time for us to choose colors, kitchen design, finishes and other and all our requests were reflected in our new house. At the end of the closing, the team always kept the same great attitude towards us and helped us with any question or request. We would say one of the greatest things about Sandcastle is that they really back up what they sell: best price, best service, best quality in town. We ended up extremely pleased with our new house."
